An oft-referenced name of the Dolcetto di Dogliani scene, or simply Dogliani, Marziano Abbona and his daughter Chiara’s winery has a well-established tradition in the Barolo world as well. First off with Barolo Terlo Ravera, replaced in 2011 by Barolo Ravera, and then with Barolo Pressenda, which comes from the eponymous area in the heart of Castelletto MGA, always considered one of the best on the east-facing side of Monforte d’Alba.
Having emerged more recently are Barolo Perno and Barolo Cerviano-Merli, which come from the highest part of the Cerviano MGA which, not coincidentally, was marketed as Barolo Cerviano until the 2011 vintage. Compared to the fruity and sinewy Barolo Pressenda (the 2019 version is excellent), it usually has a more austere and assertive style.

Additional notes

  • First vintage bottled: between the second half of the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s.
  • The Classic Barolo is usually made from all the estate’s MGAs, with a dominant percentage of Perno.
